2027 Gravel Training Camp - 13th to 20th March

Hidden Tracks Rides

London Gravel
Day Rides

Small-group gravel days from London. Long days that go somewhere, shorter ones with a proper lunch, and winter loops from Herne Hill that depend on what the weather has done.

Next Winter Landrace: Fri 13 Nov, Herne Hill, 10:30

Small groups of eight riders.

Cyclefit Landrace Bikes

Landrace is the original. We take a small group of experienced gravel riders and go somewhere.

They’re long days, generally 120–160 km, linking bridleways, forest tracks, towpaths, old roads and whatever other bits of gravel we can stitch together. The pace is purposeful, usually averaging 17–20 km/h. There’ll be coffee, lunch and quite possibly a beer before getting on a train home. They’re not races, but they’re definitely not social spins either.

The name comes from our long-standing link with Landrace Bikes and Cyclefit. Cyclefit has been part of these rides from the beginning, with Store Street providing the start line for plenty of our escapes from London. The connection has stuck, as has the name.

For 2027: Reading to London, a new route to Folkestone, London to Lewes, and a Neolithic day from Salisbury past Stonehenge and Avebury. Dates are in the ride calendar →

Average 17–20 km/h. Some of it faster.

Somewhere, not round somewhere.

Landride · from 2027

A good day out rather than an endurance test.

Around 80–90 km, ridden at a steady, conversational pace.

Shorter, more social, but the routes are as interesting. We’ll start around 9am from cafés in north or south London, ride somewhere worth riding and stop for a proper pub lunch. Finish around five. Some will be loops, some point to point.

We’re playing with loops following Ermine Street towards Hertford, heading over the North Downs to Reigate Fort, exploring what’s left of the Brooklands motor racing circuit, and, importantly, a ride to Surrey’s best pub. I’m declaring it the best because it has the best menu of any pub I’ve ever stopped at on a ride. That’s enough research for me.

The main event.

A good day out.

Winter Landrace · October to March

Then there’s winter.

From October through February, Winter Landrace starts at Herne Hill Velodrome at 10:30. These are loop rides, with the route and distance decided by the prevailing conditions. Mud, frost, rain, daylight and the occasional glorious winter morning all get a vote. We ride what makes sense and aim to be back by dusk.

Rides run on the second Friday of each month through to March. Dates are in the ride calendar →
