Unless they were keen off-road cyclists, I'm not over sure that's this is the route Chaucer and his gang would have taken - but it's a blast through Kent on some varied and excellent gravel riding.

Ride Description

Starting at the foot of London Bridge the route winds its way shadowing the Thames towards Deptford when it joins the Ravensbrook path out towards Keston - it's a bit urban here but bear with it.

Ride through Keston Common and with one last bit of road the route hit the dirt on Bogey Lane and continues rarely off-road up and down wooded comes to Knockholt.

Diving into the Shoreham on a splendid descent before fording the Darenth and joining Pilgrims Way.

For the next 30 miles, Pilgrims Way is a mix of gravel sectors interspaced with quiet roads - just go for it - it's fun.

Just past Charing, the route climbs back to the top of the Downs, past Challock into Kings Wood - a beautifully maintained largely downhill section of fire road is a joy to ride.

Beyond Chilham (have a look at the Castle) the route follows the Stour Valley before sneaking into Canterbury itself.

A great ride. Over a 100km of magnificently varied riding with bits of everything you might enjoy. Not a single gate or need to lift your bike even though most of it is off-road. Highly recommended way to see some wonderful countryside.
