Discover the wonders of the Sierra Nevada and the Badlands
Dates: 22nd - 29th May
5 days of some of the most memorable gravel riding you'll probably ever do in the mountains surrounding Granada, staying in a traditional cave house in Granada’s El Albaicin area, overlooking the Alhambra Palace, this can't get much better!
There are guided day rides through the local Sierra Nevada mountains with a longer overnight adventure to explore the Goraft Desert, better known as the Badlands.
We’ll be based in Granada’s El Albaicin district, a warren of tiny cobbled streets that is the heart of the Flamanco life, staying in one of a series of cave houses originally carved out by the Gitano Roma in the 15th century. These cave houses are not miserable holes in the ground, they are underground palaces, a chic collection of interconnecting rooms each stylishly appointed with all the mod cons you don’t expect in a cave, ensuite bathrooms, comfortable beds, of course, they are naturally gloriously cool.
All that aside, after a long day in the saddle and with a cold beer in hand, it's the view across the valley to the Alhambra Palace that just makes this trip magical!
Day 1 - Transfer from Malaga Airport/Railway Station to Granada
Day 2 - Aclimatising ride 40/50 km Day ride to a local taverna for lunch
Day 3 - Tackle Mulhacen, the highest point in the Sierra Nevada
Days 4 and 5 - Expedition to the Goraft Desert aka Badlands, stay overnight in a local taverna and return via thermal mud pools.
Day 5 - Exploring the Sierra de Huetor
Day 7 - Transfer from Granada to Malaga Airport/Railway Station
How do I get my bike to Granada?
Bike transfer from London to Granada and back is included in the cost, you'll be able to leave your bike and luggage in South London a few days beforehand and we'll drive them to Granada (and back).
There's no need to dismantle your bike, borrow a bike bag, pack it, lug it to the airport at stupid o'clock, stand for hours checking the beast in. Nor will you, when arriving in Malaga, have to find that little door where bikes are unceremoniously hidden 4 hours after the flight arrives before dragging it to a bus/bamboozle a cabbie to take it to Malaga.
Nor will you have to reassemble it with a multitool, preying that didn't forget to pack that vital bolt or spacer... ouch, hands up who hasn't been there?
Keep it simple, drop the bike and baggage off with us, pack your undies and catch a flight or train down to Malaga, let us know the details and we'll arrange for you to be collected and whisked to Granada to be reunited with your bike (and bags) and a cold beer!
The package includes:
- Accommodation in Granada sharing a 2-bed cave
- 5 days of guided and supported gravel riding
- Breakfast and lunch
- Bike and luggage transfers to and from London
- Group transfer from Malaga Airport
What's not included?
- Entrance fees to Attractions (optional)
- Optional single cave supplement
